gāng音本義：經過精煉，不含磷砂等雜質的鐵，含碳0.15鋼1.7％，比熟鐵更堅硬更富於彈性，是工業上極其重要的原料，又用作姓。gàng音義引申為“把刀在布、皮、石、或缸沿上用力摩擦幾下，使鋒利些”，“在刀口上加點兒鋼（gāng），重新打造，使更鋒利。
