owe... to...的主語既可以是人，也可以是物；
而attribute... to...的主語則只能是人。另外， owe... to...只用於主動句，大都與褒義詞連用。
例如：
He owes his success to his father. 他把他的成功歸功於他的父親。
Jim attributes his success to hard work. 吉姆把他的成功歸功於努力工作。
Economists attributed the slow progress in economy to poor cooperation. 經濟學家把經濟增長緩慢歸咎於合作不好。
