蜈蚣管家
A single woman wanted someone to help her with the household chores, so she decided to get a pet to help out. She went to the local pet shop and asked the owner for advice on a suitable animal. The owner suggested a dog, but the woman said, "Nah,dogs can't do dishes." The owner then suggested a cat, but the woman said, "Nah, cats can't do the ironing."
壹個單身女人想找個人幫她做家務，於是她決定找壹只寵物來幫忙。她來到當地的壹家寵物店，想店主征求意見，看看什麽動物比較合適。店主建議買只狗，可是那個女人卻說：“不行，狗不會洗盤子。”店主又建議買只狗，可是那個女人又說：“不行，貓不會熨衣服。”
Finally the owner suggests a centipede, "This is the perfect pet for you. It can do anything!" "OK," the woman thought, "I'll give it a try." So she bought it and took it home.
最後店主建議找壹條蜈蚣，“這對妳實在是再合適不過了。蜈蚣什麽都能幹!”女人想：“也行，就試試吧。”於是，她買了條蜈蚣帶回了家。
Once home she told the centipede to wash the dishes. The centipede looked over and there were piles and piles of dirty dishes that looked to be a month old. five minutes later, all the pots were washed, dried and put away. "Great," thought the woman.
壹到家，她就讓蜈蚣洗盤子。蜈蚣看，那裏有壹堆堆的臟盤子，看起來壹個月沒洗了。五分鐘後，所有的餐具都洗幹凈了，也擦幹擺好了。女人想：“太棒了。”
Now she told the centipede to do the dusting and vacuuming. Fifteen minutes later the house was spotless. "Wow," thought the woman, so she decided try another idea. "Go down to the corner and get me the evening paper," she told the centipede,and off it went.
現在她又讓蜈蚣打掃衛生、用吸塵器吸塵。十五分鐘後，房子便打掃得壹塵不染。女人想：“哇!”於是，她又想試試別的主意，“去街道拐角處把我的晚報拿回來。”她告訴蜈蚣，蜈蚣就去了。
Fifteen minutes later,the centipede hadn't returned. Thirty minutes later and still no centipede. Forty-five minutes and the woman was sick of waiting, so she got up and went out to look for the centipede.
十五分鐘過去了，蜈蚣沒有回來。三十分鐘過去了，還是沒回來。四十五分鐘了，女人等得不耐煩了，就起身出去找蜈蚣。
As she opened the front door, there on the step was the centipede. "Hey, what are you doing there? I sent you out for the paper forty-five minutes ago and now I find you out here without the paper! what gives?"
她開啟前門壹看，蜈蚣正坐在臺階上。“嘿，妳在那裏做什麽呢?四十五分鐘前我讓妳去拿報紙，現在我卻看到妳在這裏，報紙也沒拿!怎麽回事?”
"Hold on a minute!" said the centipede, "I'm still putting on my boots!"
“等壹會兒!”蜈蚣說，“我鞋子還沒穿好呢!”

While on recess duty at the elementary school where I teach, I was talking with several second-grades about what they want o be when they grew up. Rhonda said that she was planning to be a nun. "But, Rhonda," I protested, "Last week you said you were going to be prime minister." Giving me her most withering look, she retorted, "I can have two jobs if I want to."

While my Grade 3 class was pleting a writing exercise, one of the students asked me how to spell "piranha". I told him I was unsure. To my delight, he went to the dictionary to solve his problem. That's when another pupil said to him, "Why bother to look it up? She doesn't know how to spell it anyway."
三年級的那個班正在做寫作練習，壹個學生問我怎麽拼寫“水虎魚”。我告訴他我拿不準。結果，他去查字典來解決問題，這讓我很高興。這時，另壹個學生對他說：“妳幹嘛還查字典?反正她也不知道怎麽拼寫。”

這是另壹只手
When quite young, Webster did not always obey the rules at school. One day the teachercaught him breaking a rule and asked him to e forward to be punished. In that school,striking the open hand with a ruler was the punishment. Webster's hands happened to bevery dirty. On the way to the teacher's desk he hid his hands behind his back.
小韋伯斯特也有不遵守校規校紀的時候。壹天，他違反校規被老師逮到。老師叫他到前面去接受懲罰。在那所學校裏，懲罰就是用尺子打手掌。碰巧那天，威布斯特的手很臟，於是往講桌走時，他就把手藏在背後。
"Give me your hand," demanded the teacher.
“伸出手來。”老師說道。
Out went the right hand.
威布斯特伸出了右手。
"Webster, if you will find another hand in the schoolroom as dirty as that, I will let you go."
“韋伯斯特，要是在這個教室裏找到另壹只這麽臟的手，我就不打妳了。”
Instantly from Webster's back came the left hand. "Here is another, sir," he replied.
威布斯特馬上從背後伸出左手，回答說：“另壹只在這兒呢，老師。”
"That will do," said the teacher, laughing. "You may go."
“好吧，妳回去吧。”老師笑著說道。
