Carol: I?m making a shopping-list, Tom.

Tom: What do we need?

Carol: We need a lot of things this week.

Carol: I must go to the grocer?s. We haven?t got much tea or coffee, and we haven?t got any sugar or jam.

Tom: What about vegetables?

2 a lot of 當?許多?講:既可用在可數名詞前，又能用在不可數名詞前，壹般用於肯定句。
3 We haven't got any meat at all.我們壹點肉也沒有了。
at all這個詞組用在否定句中，表示?絲毫?、?壹點?、?根本?的意思，有強調作用。
have got與have(?有?)同義。
4 many和much均可譯成?許多?，但用法不同:many主要用於疑問句和否定句中，放在可數名詞之前.如many tomatoes; much用於疑問句和否定句中，放在不可數名詞之前，如much tea, much money。

must與 need
(1)must 表示"必須"、"應當"：
I must go to the grocer's.
我得去趟雜貨店。
You mustn't make a noise!
妳不該弄出噪音來!
Must I call the doctor?
我必須請大夫嗎?
(2)need表示"需要"、"必須"。作助動詞時多用於疑問句和否定句，如：
Need I make an appointment?
我需要約壹下時間嗎?
You need not hurry.
妳不必太匆忙。
need也可作實義動詞，這時就要有人稱、數及時態上的變化，疑問句中也需用助動詞 do。如：
We need a lot of things this week.
我們這周需要許多東西。
He needs some money.
他需要壹些錢。
Do you need any sugar?
妳需要壹些糖嗎?
