創作背景
《人生頌》寫於1838年，匿名發表於1839年，正值美國資本主義進入蓬勃發展時期。[2]亨利·沃茲沃斯·朗費羅的愛妻波特1835年因流產而病故，他壹度陷入悲痛之中，而當他追求阿普爾頓（五年後成為他第二任妻子）時，又遭遇頗多波折。他百感交集，覺得人生充滿挫折，內心不免傷感，於是寫下這首詩，以此來勉勵人們在人生道路上要不懈努力。[10]
