Separating cultured strain from sulfosalt alkali soil has screened out oxidated thiosulfate sulfur bacteria, which have been classified as thiobacillus by observing colonial morphology and mensurating physiological and biochemical characteristics. It is shown that the two strains are gramnegative bacteria, which are short rhabditiform, of sterile gemma, and have a layer of viscous capsule. It is preliminarily determined that they are denitrifying thiobacillus and T.thioparus. The research on the experiments on their growth conditions shows that these two kinds of bacteria can grow and breed swiftly. Their best culture medium and culture condition are as follows: with CO2 as a carbon source and the neutral pH as their most appropriate value, considering that they are neutral bacteria, which has a certain degree of alkali resistance, the most suitable salinity of their growth ranges from 0 to 2%, and the best culture temperature is 28 ℃. Under certain load conditions, there is an optimum value of dissolved oxygen. Under the best culture conditions, this kind of strain has a better efficiency in removal elemental sulfur. The experimental results have great significance and practical application values for the methods of the biological treatment of the improvement of saline-alkali soil.
