Sometimes, the problem is already solved once you have listened to what the speaker has to say. The managers in some Japanese and Western firms often have coffee with their subordinates after work, the purpose being to give their subordinates a change to talk freely.

During a dinner party, he sat near a botanist and listened attentively to the botanist, who talked about funny stories of plants.
