用法
1.按英語習慣,可說:It is possible that we will win the match.=It is possible for us to win the match. 我們可能會贏得這場比賽。但不能說:We are possible to win the match.
2.習語if possible可視為it is [was] possible的省略形式:I’ll help you if (it is) possible. 如果可能我會幫助妳。類似的還有when possible, whenever possible, where possible, wherever possible等:Whenever possible, they should be typed. 只要可能,都應把它們打出來。/ Avoid structures of this kind wherever possible. 只要可能,就要避免這種結構。/ Where possible, they tried to acquire colonies. 只要可能,他們就設法取得殖民地。
3.當受最高級或only修飾時,可置於被修飾名詞之前或之後:We will finish the work in the shortest possible time.= We will finish the work in the shortest time possible. 我們將在可能的最短時間內完成這項工作。 / That is the only solution possible.=That is the only possible solution. 這是唯壹可行的解決辦法。
