Li Shangyin is one of the most influential poets in the late Tang Dynasty. His poems, combined with his personal implications, feature exquisite themes, extensive contents and profound meaning. He is most well known for his love poems, which are full of misty sensuous conceptions. Li represents his aesthetic phylosophy by pursuit of misty sensuous conceptions and his delicate and hazy attachment fits it well. There are three aspects of his representation of misty aesthetics: sensuous image, sensuous conception and sensuous meaning. And there are three features of the techniques of expression: creative application of symbolism, Bi (metaphor) and Xing (imagination); multi-perspective and multi-layered setoff to the environment; extensive use of allussions, especially those regarding romantic immortals.
