英文詩歌音韻劃法如下：
以Snow-Flakes為例：
Out of the bosom of the air.
Out of the cloud-folds of her garments shaken.
Over the woodlands brown and bare.
Over the harvest-fields forsaken.
Silent, and soft, and slow.
Descend the snow.
Even as our cloudy fancies take.
Suddenly shape in some divine expression.
Even as the troubled heart doth make.
In the white countenance confession.
The troubled sky reveals.
The grief it feels.
This is the poem of the air.
Slowly in silent syllables recorded.
This is the secret of despair.
Long in its cloudy bosom hoarded.

本詩尾韻的韻律格式為：第壹節ababcc, 第二節為dedeff, 第三節為ahahii。同時本詩也有頭韻。所謂頭韻是指兩個以上的詞有相同的輔音開始。本首詩中的頭韻有第壹節的brown-bare，silent-soft-slow； 第二節的countenance-confession；第三節的slowly-silent-syllables。
劃分分類：
根據壹首英詩組成的音步數量，每壹詩行壹個音步稱“單音步”(monometer)；每壹詩行有兩個音步的，稱“雙音步”(dimeter)；含有三個音步的，稱“三音步”(trimeter)；此外還有四音步(tetrameter）、五音步、(pentameter)、六音步(hexameter)、七音步(heptameter)、八音步 (octometer)。
