說的是未來派詩歌（ Futurist poetry）有點太抽象了，不入流，不能算作文學作品。然後作者舉例，說他讀詩的註釋explanatory notes，讀到對某壹行詩的描述：a certain line describes a fight between a Turkish and a Bulgarianofficer on a bridge off which they both fall into the river... 說兩個戰士在橋上肉搏，然後掉進河裏了。 然後作者去看了對應的那行詩的原文：“Pluff! Pluff! A hundred and eighty-five kilograms.”原來只不過是描述落水聲音的pluff 和士兵的體重，就沒了。所以作者感到讀這樣的詩很upsetting，根本吃不消。
